| Downloadable movies
and video clips: Using, Buying, and Understanding Tokens |
|
| What
can I get with my tokens?
Every downloadable video and every video clip is worth a certain number of tokens. In general, video clips that are one minute in length are valued at one token and 5 minute video clips are valued from between 3-5 tokens. Full length downloadable movies have a broader range in token price, but are in general from between 20-35 tokens.
You will need to go to our
token purchase page and choose the quantity of tokens you would
like to purchase. During the payment process you will be asked to select
a username and password.
Once you have tokens in your
account it is very easy to begin viewing whatever downloadable movies
or video clips you would like to see. To download a movie or video clip
simply click on the play button of the video you want. Depending on
your operating system you may get a series of small pop up windows with
warnings, continue, cancel buttons, etc., and you may have a choice
of where you will download to on your hard drive. Be sure to pay attention
as to where the file is being saved on your hard drive. That is, what
folder it is being saved to. Once the download is complete unzip the
file (this may happen automatically). Double click on the file on your
hard drive to open it. The first time you open the downloadable movie
or video clip your Windows Media player will request your username and
password and then confirm how many tokens will be used on the downloadable
movie or video clip as well as give a running balance of your token
account. The designated number of tokens will be debited from your account,
a license to play the video is sent to your computer and the video begins
playing automatically. You will have unlimited plays indefinitely unless
you erase your licenses (see information regarding licenses below). How long is my license good for? All downloadable movies and
video clips are supposed to have have unlimited plays. However due to
current deficiencies in the Microsoft Windows Media license system we
do not guarantee that the videos will play indefinitely. Here is why.
The video licenses that allow you to play your downloadable movie or
video clips remain active until you make changes to your operating system.
If you upgrade your operating system or initialize your hard drive the
video licenses that render the videos playable will no longer be recognized
as valid. Thus, if your downloaded movie or video clips used to play,
but are now asking you to enter your User Name and Password as well
as wanting to deduct more tokens from your account then you have most
likely erased your licenses from your computer. The easiest solution
for this problem is to either purchase a new license with tokens you
currently have and contact us and we will give you a credit for the
tokens you had to use twice. Alternatively you may just simply contact
us and we will credit your account with enough tokens to obtain a new
license. You do NOT need to download the movie or video clip again.
In either case it is very important when contacting us to provide us
with your user name and subscription number that you received when you
made your original token purchase. Please note that all customer service
issues may take up to one business day to be addressed. Will the tokens work with my Macintosh? Currently the Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology employed by the token system does not support Macintosh operating systems. We have no choice over this as DRM is a Microsoft product and they simply haven't made the technology available for Mac at this point. Your downloadable movies and video clips may not be written to CD or DVD. You may however download your movie or video clip from 2 different IP addresses. We are doing this so that you may view at more than one location such as work and home. Remember the downloadable movie or video clip yo purchase is strictly for personal use only.
We offer all full downloadable movies in medium and high resolution. The big advantage to the medium resolution is that the file sizes are approximately half the size and thus have quicker downloads and take up less drive space. Of course, the higher resolution option will have a better picture. If the links to download
are not working or the initial small pop up does not respond it is most
likely that the javascript is not enabled on your browser. On most browsers
the javascript settings can be found in the internet options window
(under the tools menu). Select the security tab and click on custom
level. Look for all items with the word java or script and ensure all
are enabled. When I view my video the quality is poor. What is the problem? Video files are very large and very CPU and memory intensive. If you don't have at least 64 MB of RAM and a pentium II processor we recommend only viewing the video clips. If your computer has significantly lower statistics than we just mentioned you may even have problems with the video clips in which case we recommend waiting until you have upgraded your computer before purchasing. Sorry. In general the slower the computer the less smoothly the movie or video clip will playback. If you experience stuttering during playback then this is a sign that your computer is not fast enough to play the movie or video clip. In general, it is best when playing a movie or video clip on your computer to close all other tasks so that only the video player is running. This will help playback quality.
If you have a telephone modem connection you should not consider trying to download a full movie. However, the 1 minute video clips are a reasonable option for you; although they will still probably take 5-10 minutes to download. If you have DSL or a cable connection you should have no problem downloading anything; however, keep in mind, even with a fast connection it can take a little while to get a full movie as some of the files are as big as 600MB.
Assuming your computer uses Microsoft Windows (virtually every PC does) than you will have a suitable player on your computer. However, to use the token system you will need a very current version of the Microsoft Windows Media Player. In most cases, if you do not have a new enough version, your computer will prompt you to go get the newest version which is free. Just say "OK" to this prompt if you trust Microsoft to put the newest version of Windows Media Player on your computer. Other media players (e.g., Real Player, Quicktime, etc.) can play .wmv files which is what you will be downloading. However, the technology behind the token system is from Microsoft and it is our understanding that you will need to use the Windows Media Player for the license to work so we recommend using it for the best results. What happens after I purchase tokens? Here is how the token system
works: If I have a question or need assistance how quickly will I receive an answer? All questions and customer service issues are generally answered within one business day or less. Questions and customer service issues that we receive during the weekend are answered on the following Monday. |
